However, it is less known how long professional development has been professionally designed and supported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For instance, in Switzerland there&#8217;s the <a href=\"https:\/\/alice.ch\/de\">SVEB<\/a>, the Swiss Federation for Adult Learning, which has been around since 1951. Those who want to establish themselves in adult education can prove their qualifications with an SVEB certificate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swissmem-academy.ch\/de\/index.html\">Swissmem Academy<\/a>, the education and consulting center of Swissmem, also offers a wide range of industry-specific training programs. Among these is are blended learning courses designed by <a href=\"https:\/\/einklang-consulting.com\/\">Einklang-Consulting<\/a> for SME managers such as &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swissmem-academy.ch\/de\/kurse\/leading-in-operations.html\">Leading in Operations<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Important: Adult education is not just &#8220;elementary school pedagogy for adults.&#8221; Adult educators should have some understanding of developmental psychology, experience with so-called natural differentiation (learners differ on multiple levels), and they should continually educate themselves. This way, they won&#8217;t be caught off guard when course participants ask questions about integrating AI into course work or professional practice. And if they are working in a blended learning setting, they must be flexible enough to complement digital learning units by focusing on exactly what will help learners progress in their process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Therefore, the question to Peter Uhr, our expert on everything concerning the Swiss education system: What exactly distinguishes general education learning for children in primary schools from adult learning in professional development?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the one hand, adults bring their experiences and influences from primary school with them. These can be associated with hurdles that may need to be overcome first. On the other hand, these individuals are in a different phase of life and development. They are generally more independent, focused, and often not driven by obligation but by intrinsic motivation. In many cases, they have learned to deal with learning blocks, manage their concentration effectively, and filter out distracting interruptions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>When you speak of possible hurdles, what do you mean by that?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This refers to not-so-positive experiences and memories from school. These can lead to negative self-images (&#8220;I can&#8217;t do this anyway&#8221;) and inhibitions that are unfavorable for learning. A competent course leader recognizes these pitfalls and guides learners towards other, more positive experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Is teaching and coaching adults easier or more challenging than teaching children?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can&#8217;t answer that in general terms. However, when someone takes on the additional burden of further education alongside professional and possibly family obligations, they expect the course leader to be efficient, professionally competent, and to communicate in an adult-appropriate manner, that is, on an equal footing. In other words: Adults are demanding, they can make comparisons, evaluate what is offered, and express their perceptions.
